I prepare cherry compote every time fresh cherries are available on the market. If you can find cleaned cherries – even better, your compote will be ready in 15 minutes. It’s great to have a jar or two in the wintertime, right? Here’s a traditional Macedonian recipe for cherry compote and it doesn’t require much time or energy.
Ingredients:
- 1 kg cherries
- 200 g sugar (or as desired)
Preparation:
- Remove seeds from cherries and put them into a larger container. Add sugar and pour 2-3 liters of water.
- Put to cook, stir occasionally and boil for around 10 minutes.
- Pour compote while hot in warm jars and close well. Store in a dry and cold place.
That’s it!
You can use blueberries, cornels or other fruits.
