GRANNY’S OLD PIE WITH WHITE CHEESE

If you like the look of old and you love the taste of your grandmother’s pies, then, this is a recipe for you. This is an old recipe for granny’s pie, this pie will thrill you with it’s softness and easiness. Kinda reminds me of kokmishka, but this one doesn’t contain eggs and the preparation method is a little different.

 Ingredients:

  • 5 cups of flour
  • 1/2 fresh yeast (20 2)
  • 3 teaspoons of salt
  • water as needed
  • oil, melted butter
  • about 200 g of white cheese (for filling)

Preparation:

  1. First activate yeast in some lukewarm water,  1/2 tsp of sugar and 1 tbs flour.
  2. Knead medium soft dough from flour, salt, activated yeast and water and leave to rest for 10 minutes.
  3. Divide dough in 10 balls. Each ball is enlarged with a rolling pin in a plate size.
  4. Then coat one disk with oil and melted butter and put another disk above. Repeat the procedure with the rest of the 8 disks so you’ll get 5 sandwich crusts.
  5. Then, enlarge each crust with a rolling pin in a size as the baking pan (No.28).
  6. Put one crust in the oiled baking pan, add a little oil over the crust and apply crushed cheese.Repeat the same with other 3 crusts except you don’t add cheese on the last crust. Cut the pie in pieces and apply a little oil and leave to rise for 40 minutes or more. The more it grows, the softer it becomes.
  7. Bake at 200 C degrees until golden (about 40 minutes).
